Born in Hawaii to a Filipino father and a Chinese mother, he was one of the youngest of 8 children and was orphaned when he was about 4 years old. It wasn't until adulthood that he was able to reconnect with two sisters and a brother. He joined the US Army and then the Army Air Corps towards the end of WW2. He was out of service for a short time and then reenlisted in the US Air Force. His career lasted for 22 years and Del was due to retire in Sept. 1969, except that he had a heart attack in Vietnam during a perilous time in May 1969.
Del met Sally J. Allen at a USO near Westover AFB in Massachusetts where she served refreshments. They married on 20 Oct. 1956 in Pasadena, CA and that began their moving to different bases around the country. There were 2 sons born - Allen and Don.
