She was born in Champlain on June 27, 1915, daughter of Napoleon and Bessie (Ashline) Matott.
Helen married Russell Wells on Sept. 20, 1934, at the Methodist Church in Chazy. Russell predeceased her on March 9, 1981.
She worked at JCPenny in Plattsburgh for many years. Helen enjoyed caring for others and spending time praying and reading the Bible. She also liked to do crossword puzzles and especially cooking and sharing her wonderful meals at family gatherings.
Survivors include her son, Wendell (Alice) Wells; grandchildren, Penny (Steven) Hogan, Michael Wells Sr., David Wells, Keith Nelson, and Kevin (Tina) Nelson; great-grandchildren, Nichole Menard, Michael (Kari) Wells Jr., Kelsie Wells, Camden Wells, and Kagen Wells; great-great-grandchildren, Carson Menard, Rylee Menard, Haley Wells and Bentley Wells; and several nieces and nephews. Helen was also survived by Margaret Nix, whom she raised as her own.
Helen was predeceased by her husband and one daughter, Sharon Nelson, brother, Ellsworth; sisters, Eva, Betty, Emma, Gladys, Bertha, Beatrice, Dorothy, Gertrude, and Florence.
A graveside service will be held at Ingraham Cemetery at a later date.
