James "Jamie" Patrick Cockayne of New Hope died suddenly June 19, 2007. He was 21.
Born May 14, 1986, in Morristown, NJ, he was the son of William and Jean Marie Cockayne of New Hope, Pa.
He was the brother of Jeffrey Cockayne of Arlington, Va. and the grandson of Edith and the late Arthur Cockayne of Deep River, Conn, and the late Jean and Pat Gilligan of Morristown. He is survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jamie was a 2005 graduate of New Hope-Solebury High School, where he played basketball and lacrosse and was on the yearbook committee.
Jamie and his family were avid sailors and traveled extensively through the United States and British Virgin Islands. Within the past year, Jamie had completed the Professional Mariners Training Program at Chapman's School of Seamanship and had successfully passed his Coast Guard exam. Most recently, he had attended U.S. Sailing School in Sarasota, Fla., and received his Small Boat Instructor's Certification. He had been offered a position at the Bitter End Yacht Club, and was in St. John, in the U.S. Virgin Islands, with his mother, awaiting the final processing of his work papers when he died.
Before leaving for St. John, Jamie worked at the Marsha Brown's Restaurant in New Hope and ran the concession stand at Village II, a condominium community, also in New Hope.

His memorial service was held June 30, in New-Hope Solebury High School's Stephen J. Buck Theater.
Graveside services were held at Carversville Cemetery.
