Bert Friedlob started his career as a newspaperman on the New York Morning Telegraph prior to entering entertainment. In movies he was associated with Tay Garnett and they set up Thor Productions that produced "The Fireball" with Mickey Rooney. Friedlob, under his own banner, later made "Millionaire for Christy," "The Star" and "Steel Trap" which were all released through 20th Century Fox.

Formerly married to actress Eleanor Parker, the couple had three children and divorced in 1954. He was married to actress Jeanette Loff from 1936 until her death in 1942.
