Rebecca "Becca" Christine Chappell, 19, lost her battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia Tuesday morning, January 22, 2008. She died at home in the loving embrace of her family. Becca was born August 5, 1988, in Columbia, SC. She attended Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary and Dent Middle Schools, graduating in 2006 from Richland Northeast High School. There she participated as a member of the Cavalier Chorale, the varsity girls' tennis team, and the junior varsity girls' soccer team. She served as a Captain of the tennis team in her junior and senior years. Becca was a student in the University of South Carolina College of Nursing.

Rebecca will be remembered for her intelligence, sense of humor, loyalty to friends and family, and common sense that belied her years. She cherished her independence and fought bravely to maintain it in the face of her illness.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Alice B. Chappell.
