Shawn Michael Charles passed away unexpectedly at Huntsville Hospital on Thursday. He was born on August 16, 1957 at Saint John’s Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. He moved to Huntsville in 1983 to be closer to his parents and other family members.

Shawn was employed by SCI Systems, Inc. from 1985 – 2001 as a Sr. Mechanical Technician. He was employed by AMTEC Corporation and AI Signal Research, Inc. from 2002 - 2013 as an Engineering Technician. In 1992 he became certified and licensed as an Emergency Medical Technician and ambulance driver and held that status for several years and he also held certificates of proficiency in soldering, machining, electronics and mechanical occupational fields.

He enjoyed restoring antique and classic cars, camping, playing the piano, listening to music, and visiting with family and friends.

In 2013, Shawn was diagnosed with end stage renal disease and heart issues and was no longer able to continue working. Shawn was not one to give up and fought hard to live a functional and enjoyable life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd and Nana Charles, Jr; and brother, Dan Charles.
