On Thursday, July 5, 2007, Gary passed away at the National Heath Care Center in Joplin, Missouri, following a long illness. He was 61 years old and a resident of Columbus, Kansas.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents. He was survived by his wife, Helen, and three stepdaughters, Kari, Keli and Kathi, all of Columbus, Kansas, and seven grandchildren. Graveside services with Military Honors were held at the Columbus City Cemetery.
