DELIA MCCLURG

Delia Emma McClurg died in Stuart on Nov 7, 1999. She was 90 years old.

Mrs McClurg was born on Aug 11, 1909 at the home of her parents, Calvin and Mabel Lofquest Allyn, north of Stuart. She attended Clay Creek School, a one room elementary school near her parent's home. After her graduation from Stuart high school in 1927, she attended Wayne State Teachers College before returning to teach at Clay Creek school.

She continued teaching and attending summer school at Wayne until 1930. In 1930 she married Warren J McClurg and they both taught at Naper from 1930 through 1933.

In 1933, she and her husband received their undergraduate degrees from Wayne State. They moved to Inman, where she taught home economics until 1943. From 1943 to 1963 she taught home economics at Rock County high school and her husband served as superintendent.

In 1954 the Nebraska state school board awarded her one of their 7 master teachers awards. She continued her education at the U of Wyoming where she earned her Masters degree in vocational homemaking in 1955.

She served on several vocational homemaking organizations, including the Future Homemakers of America. From 1963 until their retirement in 1972, she and her husband were employed at Buffalo school in Merino, Colorado. They then moved back to Stuart where they lived until moving in 1976 to Mission, Texas. They returned to Stuart in 1993.

Mrs. McClurg is survived by her husband of 69 years, and by her three children, Marilyn Wheeler of Boulder, Colo; Joan Hall of Chicago, Ill; and Dr Jim of Lincoln, Nebr.

She has five grandchildren, Linda Tarpeh Doe of Nairobi, Kenya; Steven Wheeler of Munich, Germany; David Wheeler of Broomfield, Colo; Colin Hall of NY,NY; Justin Hall of Oakland, Calif.

She has 5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by brother Elmer of Stuart, sisters Cora Sweet of Stuart and Laura Artzer of Sterling, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Ralph, of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Jim of O'Neill.
