General Sir (Francis Robert) Roy Bucher KBE CB MC was a British soldier who became the second Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army and the final non-Indian to hold the top post of the Indian Army after Partition.
Born in North Leith, Edinburgh, he was the son of David Smith Bucher (Wine & Spirit Merchant) and Harriet Frederica, née Paterson; daughter of Robert Roy Paterson and Euphemia Hannah Lowe.
He married firstly Edith Margaret Reid on 8th November 1922 in Paisley Abbey, Renfrew, daughter of Alexander Reid (Dye Merchants) and Margaret Stewart (family-Cloth Merchants). She was born 27th May 1899 in Paisley, Renfrew, and died 4th December 1944 in Bangalore, India. They had one daughter, Elizabeth Margaret, who married Lt. (Evan) Michael (Pearce) Hardy on 7th June 1951.
Secondly, he married Maureen Helen Susan Gibson on 1st February 1946 in Calcutta, India, daughter of Captain Thomas George Gibson and Mary Creagh.
