Ruth Lyle Schild age 87 of Dayton sadly passed away on July 5, 2007 at Rhea Medical Center. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Ruth was born on November 5, 1919 in Johnson City, TN. During WWII she worked for the Draft Board and volunteered folding and packaging bandages for the US soldiers. She married her beloved husband and WWII veteran, Mike Schild II, on August 8, 1943. After the war the couple settled in Dayton, where Ruth taught at Valley School and later worked at Dayton Bank as a teller. Ruth loved to cook and spent many happy times in the kitchen preparing delicious meals and trying out her latest receipe. Her cookie jar was always filled with delectable homemade creations. Ruth was also an avid gardener, seamtress and member of the First United Methodist Church in Dayton. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, John Raymond Lyle and Nancy Sue Thomas Lyle, her brothers and sisters, Edith Lyle Morgan, Sue Lyle, Jane Lyle Preston, John T. Lyle, Hugh Lyle and Fred D. Lyle and her son-in-law James E "Buzz" Elkins. Ruth is survived by her husband of 63 years Mike Schild II of Dayton, daughter, Martha Sue Schild Elkins of Clinton, TN, son and daughter-in-law, Mike Schild III and Gail Taylor Schild of Chattanooga, TN, grandchildren, Laura Elkins of Nashville, TN, Chris Schild and Nicholas Schild of Chattanooga, TN. The family will receive friends from 3pm to 5pm on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Vanderwall Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 5pm. Burial will be in Rhea Memory Gardens followed by a white dove release. Memorials may be made in Ruth's name to the Dayton First United Methodist Church.
