Mayflower Adams, 97, of Red Bank, passed away Tuesday June 12, 2007 at Navesink Harbor, Red Bank, NJ. She was born May 2, 1910 in Clemons, NY to the Rev. George T. and Bertha (Brooke) Wood and lived in England and New York State until 1943. At that time she moved to New Jersey, living first in Red Bank and then in Neptune until 1992 when she returned to Red Bank living at Navesink Harbor. She was a graduate of Mount Holyoke College as well as Rutgers the State University where she received a Master's Degree in Education. She taught elementary classes in New Egypt and Neptune before teaching Mathematics at Neptune Senior High School, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Asbury Park where she taught the Philathea Class and was treasurer of the Mission Fund. She also had been a deaconess of the church and treasurer of the general fund of the church. She had been a member of the Board of Education of Riverview Academy and had taught Mathematics there. She was a member of NJREA, NEA and AARP. She liked to grow flowers and vegetables throughout her life and was happy that she could continue gardening in the gardens at Navesink Harbor. While her gardening efforts were modest compared to that of her neighbors in Neptune and at Navesink Harbor, she always expressed appreciation for the efforts and results of others. She and her family appreciate the care she received at Navesink Harbor. She was predeceased by her husband William Carl Adams in 1977, her two brothers Arthur Wood and Howard Wood, her two sisters, Iona Bishop and Victoria Curry and her granddaughter Beth Brugger. She leaves three children, a daughter, Margaret A. (Adams) and her husband Rev. Frederick Brugger of Blacksburg, VA; two sons, Russell C. and his wife, Annette Adams, of St. James, MO; William E. and his wife, Lorraine Adams, of Bradford, MA. She leaves seven grandchildren, Wendy (Brugger) Craft, Daniel Brugger and David Brugger; Andrew and Michael Adams; and Elizabeth and Emily Adams. She also leaves four great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Hannah Craft, Rachel Brugger and Elizabeth Adams. Friends and family are invited to call on Monday June 18, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Ely Funeral Home 3316 Hwy. 33 Neptune, NJ. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday June 19, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Asbury Park with interment to follow in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. A memorial service will also be held on Sunday June 24, 2007 at 4 PM at Navesink Harbor, 40 Riverside Ave., Red Bank, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Deacon's Fund of the First Baptist Church of Asbury Park, NJ.
