Mr. Abernathy was a heating and air-conditioning technician. He first worked for Craft Mechanical in Lafayette, then was self-employed for several years. He recently rejoined the staff of Craft Mechanical. He was a member of Local 157, and he enjoyed fishing, Sprint and NASCAR racing.
Also surviving are his step-father and mother, Kenneth and Susan Flick of Crawfordsville; a brother, Rodney Abernathy of Covington; his paternal grandfather, Lloyd Abernathy; and a niece, Jessica Abernathy.
