James Paul Akers, of Danese, WV, passed away Friday, October 11, 2019 in Beckley, WV.
Born August 29, 1931 in Wriston, WV, the son of the late Ken Denward and Thelma Pearl Painter Akers.
He was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA, (The United Mine Workers of America); and a proud member of the Jehovah's Witness Congregation in Rainelle, WV.
Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Susie Hawkins, and Geneva Richmond; 8 brothers, Chilton, Earl, Calvin, Everette, John, Homer, Orville, and Sanford.
Survivors include wife of 60 years, Mary Ellen Fox Akers, of Danese, WV; 3 daughters, Louise Sparks and friend Nick Jones of Charmco, WV, Lucille Wright and husband Larry of Bolt, WV, and Pauline Barnett and friend Keith Blagg of Bellwood, WV; only son, Chazman Akers of Clarkston, MI; sisters, Audrey Thacker and husband Jim of Pikeville, KY, Mazel Ramey of Pikeville, KY, and Ruth Bagyi of Rainelle; brothers, Hobert Akers of Nettie, WV, Wilbert Akers and wife Charlotte of Meadow Bridge, Robert Akers and wife Murlee of Alta; 6 grandchildren, Jamie Havens, Jeremy Reynolds, Alicia Trump, James Crookshanks, Everett Paul Barnett, and Preslyn Grace Akers; 5 great-grandchildren, Brendon Beaver, Brayden Crookshanks, Lucas Crookshanks, Jadyn Reynolds, and Caeton Reynolds.
Services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle, with Elder Will Robinson officiating. Burial will follow services and Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville.
Visitation will be held for friends and family on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle.
