Steven was the victim of homicide orchestrated by his 2nd wife Celeste (née Johnson) Beard. He was shot in the stomach on his October 2, 1999, by Celeste's lesbian lover Tracey Tarlton while he was asleep. Tracey was charged on February 16, 2001 and pleaded guilty to her involvement in Steven's death in exchange for testifying against Celeste. Celeste was charged with her involvement in Steven's death on March 28, 2002. She was convicted of it on March 19, 2003 and the next day she was sentenced to 40 years to life. Tracey was released in August 2011, but Celeste won't be eligible for parole until January 4, 2042.
