Born September 26, 1933 in York, he was a son of the late Clifford T. and Grace T. (Leber) Abel. A 1951 graduate of William Penn High School, he served in the US Army, and was retired from York Engraving where he worked as a graphic artist. He was a member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ; and was a life member of Springettsbury Fire Company where he had served as President. He was an avid Penn State and Philadelphia Eagles fan, and also enjoyed gardening.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Abel is survived by three children, Jeffrey L. Abel, and his wife Susan, of York, Lisa K. Crouse, and her husband Michael, of State College, and Michael T. Able, and his wife Lisa, of Newtown Square; nine grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; a brother, David Abel, and his wife Lucy Ellen; a sister, Linda Abel; and a host of nieces, nephews; and cousins.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Mount Zion United Church of Christ, 1054 Ridgewood Road, York, with his Pastor, The Rev. Danielle Neff, officiating. Viewing will be 9:30-10:30 AM. Private burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Workinger Semmel Funeral Homes and Cremation, 849 East Market Street, York, is in charge of arrangements.
