Edward Lee "Ed" Jones Sr., 78, of Olney, died at 11:55 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2007, at his residence.

Mr. Jones was born July 3, 1929, in Lawrenceville, the son of James and Cecil (Dunlap) Jones. He married Mabel R. Brant. She survives.

He worked at AMF as a department foreman and retired as a city carrier for the United States Postal Service with 16 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Gilead Church and served in the U.S. Army for four years.

He was a loyal Cubs fan and an admirer of John Wayne. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all.

Mr. Jones is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mabel R. (Brant) Jones; sister, Donna (Jones) and Maynard Deischer; brother, Robert and Onzalee Jones; children, Debra Stoltz, and Edward Jones Jr.; grandchildren, Cheri (Smith) and Roger Spillman, Heather (Jones) and Wes Pride, Amanda (Jones) Martin, Jonathan Stoltz, Jennifer Stoltz, and Jason Jones; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Alyssa Spillman, Chelsea Pride, Skyler and Kylie Martin, and Alyssa, Amber and Anthony Ritchey; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold Jones; sister, Betty Holsen; and daughter, Cheryl Gulledge.

Visitation was at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney.

Funeral services were held at Mt. Gilead Church in rural Dundas with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating.

Burial was in Haven Hill Memorial Cemetery in Olney.

Full military rites were performed by the Olney veterans organizations.
