Valley Joseph Balling, 55, prominent Jacksonian and manager of the General Electric Supply company, died from a heart attack September 17, 1953, in his Benwalt hotel room in Philadelphia, Mississippi. He was in Philadelphia on a business trip and checked in at the hotel Wednesday morning.

Valley, was a native of Memphis, Tennessee, but had been a resident of Jackson since 1922.

He was preceded in death by his father, Valentine Balling.

Besides his wife, the former "D L O" Davidson, he is survived by one daughter, Valdee (and Dr. Joseph L.) Stewart, of Salida, CO; his mother, Annie R. (Weiner) Balling, of Memphis; and one brother, Arthur F. Balling, of Memphis.

Pallbearers were: John T. Scott, Eugene W. Wells, Norman L. Bryant, W. F. Lumpkin, E. C. Steijen, Homer Bufkin all of Jackson. J. A. Frizsell of Gulf-port and Morgan Warren of Vicksburg.
Honorary pallbearers were: Raymond L. Sullivan, P. H. Eager Jr., Julian Hendricks, Randolph Berbette, Nelson Ciddens, Barron C. Ricketts, Theo Costas, all of Jackson; Carlo Brown, W. D. Billingsley and Guy Harris of New Orleans.
