Mr. Jesse Murphy, Jr., age 93, of Richlands, VA passed away Thursday October 17, 2019 at Tazewell Community Hospital in Tazewell, VA. Born at home in Iaeger, WV he was the son of the late Jesse Murphy, Sr. and Jane Curry Murphy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Lambert Murphy; one daughter Debbie Absher and three brothers Jack Murphy, Bob Murphy, and Ted Murphy.

He worked for 36 years in the Maintenance of Way Department with Norfolk Southern Railroad from 1949 to 1985 where he was given the nickname “Big Foot”. He enjoyed going to the AASC programs in his later years. He like to listen to gospel music on WGTH radio, especially on football Friday nights and watching Bob Smallwood on the TV.

He is survived by four children, Thomas Murphy, Karen Murphy, Patricia Collins & husband Teddy and Timothy Murphy; two sisters Jean Deuvall and husband Don of Hollywood, MD and Joan Damron and husband Mickey of Fort Mohave, AZ; one brother Ray Murphy of Williamson, WV; 4 grandchildren, Jeremy Collins, Adam Collins, Joshua Absher, and Courtni Short; 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Special thank you to Dr. Javed and his nurses, the nurses and staff at Helping Hands Home Health Care of Pounding Mill, VA, and to the nurses and staff at Heritage Hall, Tazewell, VA.

Services and burial were private at the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, VA.
