Ava Nell Crawford (Ballew), 75, died Wednesday July 4, 2007 at Windcrest Alzhiemers Care Center in Abilene. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Belvieu Cemetery with Bro. Corkey Wells officiating under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born June 20, 1931 in Fisher County, Ava Nell was a daughter of the late Ivan and Lois (Bigham) Deel. Ava Nell grew up in Rotan and graduated from high school at the age of fifteen. She married Woody Crawford on November 9, 1947 at Hamlin. Ava Nell and Woody lived abroad in Germany and would later come back to live in Lubbock, Abilene and Rotan. She worked as a bookkeeper, owned and operated Woody?s Kountry Kitchen with her husband and retired as secretary for Rotan High School. After the death of her husband, Woody, Ava Nell married Hardy Ballew. She loved to cook and was an excellent seamstress and pianist. She was a member of the First Nazarene Church in Lubbock. Ava Nell is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two sisters (Melva Youngblood and Mamie Gene Strickland).
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Danae Crawford of Mesquite; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sharon D'Amalfi of Plano and Sheila and Randy Murphree of Rotan; one brother, Weldon Deel of Weatherford; six grandchildren, Brandi Webb, Dustin D'Amalfi, Brittany Crawford, Bradey Murphree, Cody Murphree and Jerrod Crawford; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Windcrest Alzhiemer's Care Center in Abilene for all their love, respect and support they have shown to Ava Nell over the past years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Sears Hospice of Abilene or Windcrest Alzhiemer's Care Center.
