Adam and his brother John were captured by the British in 1780 when they came into the Mohawk Valley, raiding and burning houses; John was released in a few days but Adam was taken to Canada as a prisoner (with about 100 others)and held for over a year; upon his return, Adam settled on a farm near Fonda and John settled in the eastern part of Fonda.
