In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Margaret (Fred) Fruits of Crawfordsville and Claren M. Stull of Crawfordsville, step-daughters Carol (Brandon) Betts of Edmonds, Washington and Janet (Dave) Vaught of Darlington, step-son Michael (Carol) Oswalt of California, five grandsons, six step-grandsons, two step-grand daughters, nine great grand-children, four step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth R. Martin of Rockville and a niece, Donna Britton of Rockville.
He participated in the Civilian Conservation Corps established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt at Shades State Park. He served in the Navy during World War II. He worked for R. R. Donnelley and Sons, then for Bookwalter Publishing which later became Rand-McNally, retiring in 1979. He was a member of American Legion Post 72, Veterans of Foreign War #1431, Moose Lodge #6, Eagles Lodge #1005 and the Rockville Elks Club. He was also a member of the Senior Golf Association, several bowling leagues and is in the Crawfordsville Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He was an avid bowler and golfer and enjoyed many spectator sports as well as the outdoors.
Services were entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home of Crawfordsville, Indiana.
