George “Butch” Bates, age 72, of Douglassville, Texas, went to be with the Lord Sunday, November 3, 2019, in a Longview, Texas, hospital.

Butch was born June 21, 1947 in Searcy, Arkansas, to Ryal and Ella Bates. He was retired from Smith-Blair in Texarkana, Arkansas, followed by a law enforcement career with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office where he was a Sheriff’s deputy for over 30 years.

Butch was a member of the Cass County Cowboy Church; the Cass County Peace Officers Association, and the NRA. He enjoyed spending time with his family; as well as hunting, fishing and any kind of outdoor activity.

He was preceded in death by his brother Randy Bates; and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Roxie Bates of Douglassville, Texas; three daughters, Susan Skinkle and husband Brian of Amity, Arkansas, Melanie Fischer and husband Stacy of Linden, Texas, Stephanie Jones and husband Michael of Queen City, Texas; his sister, Vivian Burns and husband Clarence of Linden, Texas; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, November 7, 2019 in the Hanner Funeral Chapel with Bro. Mickey Rorex and Bro. Keith Teffteller officiating.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Hanner Funeral Service.

Interment will be in Douglassville Cemetery.
