William Rountree came to the United States from Ireland on July 23, 1911 with his brother Richard and sister Elizabeth and settled in Rochester. He served in the Army during WWI. He became a naturalized citizen on September 9, 1918. He was a deacon and trustee of Ridgeland Baptist Church for 16 years. William was a farmer, skilled carpenter and stone mason. He also worked in the foundry of the Sill Stove company, the Pullman factory and as a chauffeur. He married Iona Haselbauer in 1921 and had two childeren Oleta and Lincoln. His farm was on Jefferson Avenue a part of what is now the RIT grounds.
