He settled in Oxford, Connecticut and married Esther Clark, daughter of Thomas and Susannah (Woodruff) Clark. David Woodruff fought in the French and Indian Wars in 1757 under Capt. Joseph Woodruff. In 1778, he was a Lieut. in the 13th Co, 2nd Conn Reg. and also a Lieutenant in the alarm list of the Connecticut Assembly. David was referred to as the 3rd son in his father's will. He died 31 December 1786 in Oxford, CT.
In Baldwin's The Candee Genealogy, 1882: "David Woodruff (6), was son of John (5), John (4), Matthew (3), John (2), Matthew (1) the first of Farmington, Connecticut. An account of them will be found in the Baldwin Genealogy, with which the line is connected by two successive marriages."
