J. A. Sheehan Dies at 67
Retired Printer Worked 45 Years
James A. Sheehan of 344 Market Street, Kingston, a retired composing room employe of Wilkes-Barre Publishing Company, died yesterday afternoon at his home following a short illness. He was 67 years of age.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Daniel and Sarah Quinn Sheehan, and attended local schools.
Mr. Sheehan began a career that was to extend over a period of 45 years as a printer at local plants. He started as an apprentice at the old Times-Leader in 1910. Later, he left the publishing company to accept a foremanship with Penn Printery and from there he moved to Collins Press. He returned to newspaper work 12 years ago at the Times-Leader Evening News. He served as a floorman for the afternoon paper and later transferred to Wilkes-Barre Record as a proof reader, in which capacity he worked until his retirement in October, 1955.
He was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston, and its Holy Name Society, and Local 187, International Typographical Union, Wilkes-Barre.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ethel Miller; two daughters, Mrs. Anthony Dean, Kingston, and Mrs. Emma Jones, Newark, N. J.; sons, Daniel, Wilkes-Barre, and Robert, Rahway, N. J.; two sisters, Misses Catherine and Elizabeth, both of Wilkes-Barre, and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be held from the funeral home, 333 Wyoming Avenue, Kingston, Friday morning at 9 with a requiem mass at 9:30 in St. Ignatius Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m.
