A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late William P. Rickman and Inez Bryson Rickman. In addition he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Gracie Dean Jackson.
He graduated from North Carolina State University with a masters in forestry.
He was a member of Cowee Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher and was a member of the American Legion Post 108.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Barger Rickman; five stepchildren, Denver Couch of Salem, Ind., Geraldine Bowling of Sizerock, Ky., Kathleen Dills, Betty Sue Passmore and Stephanie Hamilton, all of Franklin; 15 stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at Cowee Baptist Church. Revs. Lloyd Fish and Tommy Fouts officiated.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Ralph Bowling, Joe Dills, Rick Dills, Freddie Dills, Charles Cabe and Bennie Reynolds
