Dr. Adele Ducharme, 63, died at her home in Valdosta on Tuesday, March 14, 2006. Born in Alexandria, Louisiana, on March 2, 1943, she was the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Holly Ducharme and the late Dr. Robert James Ducharme. Formerly of Opelousas, Louisiana she had lived in Valdosta for the past 16 years where she was Department Head for Middle Grades and Secondary Education at Valdosta State University. Dr. Ducharme held memberships with the Association of Teacher Educators, the American Association of College Teachers of Education, the Georgia Research Association, Phi Delta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi, the International Reading Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Georgia Association of Teacher Educators, the National Middle Grades Association, the Georgia Middle Grades Association, the Georgia International Reading Association, and Professors of Middle Level Education of Georgia and National. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Dr. Ducharme was of the Episcopal faith.

Survivors are her daughter, Shannon Michele Hansen of Franklin, Massachusetts, her son and daughter in law, Shawn and Jill Ducharme of Austin, Texas, her mother, Mary Elizabeth Ducharme of Lafayette, Louisiana, and three grandchildren, Samantha Hansen, Rachel Hansen of Franklin Massachusetts, Dylan Ducharme of Austin, Texas.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Richard Pieplow will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 –7 p.m. at the funeral home.
