Virgil was the son of William G Taylor and Phalissa Crane Taylor.

He is found on the 7 August 1850 census with his family in Northeast Township, Orange County, Indiana as 11 months old, which gives us an approximate birth date of late September, early October, 1849.

NOTE: The 1850 census is the earliest document proving the approximate age of Virgil. It is evident that his family did not know the actual ages of the children including Virgil.

In 1860 Virgil is found with his family living in Liberty Township, Crawford County, Indiana, age 6.
By 1870 the family has moved to Posey Township, Washington County, Indiana and Virgil is age 15.
In 1880 Virgil has married Henrietta Buress and they are living in Madison Township, Washington County, Indiana with several children. Virgil is enumerated as being 25 years old.
The 1900 census shows Virgil as being 45 years old and born in July 1854. The family is living in Vernon Township, Washington County, Indiana
The 1910 census shows that the family has moved to Kiowa County, Oklahoma. Virgil is 55 years old and born about 1855. Living with Virgil and Henrietta is their son Alva Taylor.
In 1920 Virgil and Henrietta are living in Hydro, Caddo County, Oklahoma. Virgil is now 62 years old.
In 1930 Virgil and Henrietta are living in Hydro, Caddo County, Oklahoma and Virgil is enumerated as 75 years old.

Virgil and Henrietta lived in Oklahoma for more that 30 years.
