The Tyler Morning Telegraph in Tyler, Texas, on Thurs., August 15, 1940, pg. 1, report on the car crash that took Mr. Armstrong's life. It stated that he had lived in Palestine, Texas, for the past eight years, having moved from Glen Rose, Texas. He was survived by his widow (Irma T. Armstrong), one son, Jack, His mother, Mrs. Dora Wright of Glen Rose, and a sister, Mrs. V. R. Horton of Fort Worth.

On October 5, 1940, while living at 2811 Strong, Ft. Worth, Texas, Mrs. Irma Armstrong completed an application for a Military Headstone for Emmett Belmont Armstrong who had served in the U.S. Naval Reserve during WWI as a chief Machinist's Mate with the 9th Naval District in Naval Aviation. The Flat Marker was to be placed in the Forest Hill Cemetery at Fort Worth, Texas.
