Betty Lou Martin Platter, 77, of Salem went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 16, 2019.

She was born November 10, 1942 in Roanoke County in a little white house in Fort Lewis Hollow. She was the wife of the late David Wilmer Platter and the daughter of Brown Lee Martin, Sr. and Lura Mae Beason Martin, both deceased.

Betty grew up in Salem and graduated from Andrew Lewis High School. She married David W. Platter at Green Hill Church of the Brethren on April 4, 1964 and they were married 45 years. They moved to the Eastern Shore where Betty worked for Wallops Island. While there, they had their first child, Keith Alan Platter.

Later Betty and David returned to Salem where daughter, Kristi Annette Platter was born. When Kristi was two they moved to Fincastle, VA where they lived until they retired and moved back to the Glenvar Area in Salem. Betty retired from Botetourt Intermediate School as a Bookkeeper.

Betty was baptized at Fort Lewis Baptist Church in Salem, VA and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Fincastle, where she served as church historian. Most recently she attended Salem Church of Christ in Salem, VA.

Nothing made Betty happier than to spend time with her five grandchildren. Betty had many hobbies and passions which included art, especially painting and stained glass, sewing, and scrapbooking. She enjoyed volunteering at Richfield Retirement Center.
