Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, with Bradley Speer, pastor of Southwest Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Baker was born in Wetumka, Okla., to Bowie and Virtle Baker. He was raised in Borger. He married June Dawes on Jan. 16, 1953, in Portales, N.M. They moved to Amarillo, where he was a resident for 53 years, worked for Bell Helicopter for 22 years and was UAW President for 12 years. He was a member of Southwest Baptist Church. He loved to travel, cared for others and loved country and western music.
Survivors include his former wife, June Baker of Amarillo; two sons, Jerry Baker and wife Margaret of Amarillo and Mark Baker and wife Vicki of Petrolia; four daughters, Jackie Hower and husband Phil, Kelly Denham and husband Jeremy, DeeAnn Sheppard and Sheree Early and husband Tony, all of Amarillo; two brothers, Louie Baker of Canyon and George Baker of Fort Smith, Ark.; two sisters, Shirley Stewart of Fort Worth and Diane Knight of Watauga; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to the Alzheimer's Association, 1400 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106; or Odyssey Healthcare, 6900 W. Interstate 40, Suite 150, Amarillo, TX 79106.
