In the 1930 Census Elmo G. Jones b. S.C. was aboard the Coast Guard Destroyer Trippe docked in Stapleton, Staten Island, N.Y. He was a 1st class quartermaster. The Trippe was a Navy Destroyer in World War I then transferred to the Coast Guard in 1924 to help with boats smuggling alcoholic beverages during prohibition.
