Bertha married at the age of 18 on the 17th of October 1880 in St Andrew’s in Holborn. Her husband Benjamin Thomas Whitworth was a postal clerk. In 1881 they were living in Kings Road, St Pancras.
In 1882 they had a son Herbert and in 1883 a daughter Bertha, both born in the Saint Pancras area. It seems the marriage failed and Bertha returned to the Sunninghill are with her daughter. Her son stayed in London, initially with his grandmother and later with his father.
In 1891 Bertha was living with Robert Alfred Morton who was also born in Sunninghill and was working there as a plasterer. They were living in Gas Works Road in Sunninghill where Bertha was a laundress and also mother to a new daughter Ethel Mary Morton born in 1890.
In 1901 they had moved to Littleworth Villas in Murrells Lane in Camberley. They lived here for the remainder of their lives. In 1911 Bertha’s husband, who was living with their son in London was enumerated as ‘Separated’ – it is not known when he died.
Robert married Bertha in 1918 – likely after Benjamin Whitworth’s death.
Bertha died at her home in Camberley on the 3rd of September 1931 and was buried at Frimley on the 9th of November 1931.
