A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he served as a sergeant in the Pacific theater and was involved in the battles for New Guinea and the Philippines. A potato farmer for more than 40 years, he farmed on the Grimes Road in Caribou, retiring in 1975. After retirement, he became an avid gardener, well known for his bountiful vegetable harvests and his beautiful flower gardens. Active in civic and veteran's affairs, he was a charter member of the Caribou Growers and a member of the Lister-Knowlton Post VFW No. 9389 of Caribou. He was a lifelong member of the Limestone United Methodist Church.
