Son of Garrett H. and Adda E. (Tibbits) Brierly. Gordon attended Nora Springs School. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954.
Gordon was united in marriage to Corinne Ann Fessenden on July 17, 1954, at the United Methodist Church in Mason City. Gordon returned to Nora Springs to work with his father, who had a family construction business, where he worked with his brothers. He went to work for Nordaas American Homes out of Minnesota for several years before starting his own business.
Gordon was a talented carpenter and a handyman of all trades. Gordon was a member of the HDS Post 449 in Nora Springs for 51 years. He helped organize the new Veterans Memorial in Nora Springs. Gordon served on the Nora Springs City Council for 15 years and was mayor of Nora Springs from 1976 to 1977.
Gordon loved to work in his garden and spent many hours tinkering in his garage and sharing stories with his friends. Gordon enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Gordon will be greatly missed by his wife, Corinne (Fessenden) Brierly , four daughters, four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, one sister, and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garrett and Adda (Tibbits) Brierly; three brothers, Kenneth, Howard, and Burton Brierly; and two sisters, Etna Brierly and Virginia (Brierly) Rethamel.
