Martin A. Flavin had the rare distinction of winning Pulitzer Prices for both a play and a novel. He married four times.

Martin Archer Flavin (November 2, 1883 – December 27, 1967) was an American playwright and novelist.

Flavin was born in San Francisco, California, and died in Carmel, California. He was a Sigma Chi at the University of Chicago, which he attended from 1903 to 1905. He taught at Stanford in Palo Alto.

His wife and mother of his three children Sarah Keese Arnold Flavin died in 1937 from a reported fall from a cliff in Carmel near their home.

His second wife was Cornelia Clampitt Bell, married in Baltimore MD November 2, 1940, divorced in 1944. They remarried in February of 1949.

His novel Journey in the Dark received both the Harper Prize for 1943 and a Pulitzer Prize for 1944, and was printed as an Armed Services Edition. The New York Times called the book "a story of a boy from Iowa who becomes a business tycoon at the price of his integrity."
