Mel Best, 56, Greensburg, died at 12:10 p.m., Sunday, Sept.
19, 1999, at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.

Born Jan. 25, 1943, he was the son of Otho and Mary (Best) Bockover. He married Sherry (Conk) Best on May 28, 1966 in Greensburg and she survives.

He had been a regional sales director for Farm Bureau Insurance and was employed for 33 years before retiring in 1998. He currently owned and operated Best Storage and Best Air in Greensburg. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He belonged to the Greensburg Country Club and the Greensburg Masonic Lodge 36. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving in Vietnam, where he held the rank of Sergeant. He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1962.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and his wife, Sam and Michelle Best of Greenfield; one daughter Shelley (Mike) Knoll of Greensburg; two brothers, John Best and Sheldon Best, both of Greensburg; one sister Letha (Jim) Ryle of Greensburg; three grandchildren , one step-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Cline, and his step-father, Joe Bockover.

Funeral servies will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg. Burial will be at South Park Cemetery in Greensburg.
