Marion – Samuel V. Aikman, 72 died at 11:50 am Saturday, May 13, 2000 at home. Funeral home is Meredith in Carbondale. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy in the Pacific Theater. He had attended the Chicago Kent College of Law and had been president of the Grand Island NE branch of Color Craft. Lastly he was a land agent for several companies.
He was born June 25, 1927 in Pinckneyville to Samuel Vick and Ethel Copher Aikman Sr. He married Elflora Kaeser on December 24, 1949 in Marion and she survives. Other survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Vance and Marla Aikman of Marion and Samuel V. and Janice Aikman III of Robinson, 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Jeff Hayes of Herrin and Valerie and William Henshaw of Marion, sister and brother-in-law, Roxanna and Clark Pulver of Marion, and 6 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Martha Garrison and 2 grandchildren. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and the Elks.
