Born Daniel Louis Aiello Jr., he worked at both Greyhound Bus Company and as a nightclub bouncer before getting into acting. His first acting role came in the 1973 film "Bang the Drum Slowly." Besides "Do the Right Thing" and "Moonstruck," his film credits later included such films as "The Godfather: Part II" (1974), "Fort Apache the Bronx" (1981), "The Purple Rose of Cairo" (1985), "Harlem Nights" (1989), "Hudson Hawk" (1991), and "The Cemetery Club" (1993), and "Leon: The Professional" (1994). He also appeared on the "small screen" in such series as "Kojak," "The Andros Targets," "On Our Own," "Lady Blue," and "Dellaventura." He also released a series of jazz albums during his career.
