William Spencer Hill Jr was born on May 22, 1892 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, the son of William Spencer Hill Sr (ca 1854–1927) and Virginia Elizabeth "Jennie" (Jones) Hill (1863–1959).

Educated in Nashville public schools, he served in the US Army as a Sergeant during World War I, and he was married on August 22, 1919 in Nashville to Mary Louise Ervin (1901–1999), the daughter of Charles Winder "Charlie" Ervin ( –1903) and Lucy (Crenshaw) Ervin (1883–1913).

He was a member of Woodmont Christian Church and belonged to Nashville Post #5 of the American Legion. He was the owner/operator of Waverly-Belmont Auto Repair Shop and lived at 750 Wedgewood Avenue in Nashville. He was 63 years old and married when he had a heart attack and died at Saint Thomas Hospital on July 20, 1955.

Survivors included his widow, his mother, sons Ervin Spencer Hill and Robert A "Pete" Hill, all in Nashville, sisters Mrs B R Anderson of Nashville and Mrs William Bearden at Franklin, Tennessee and three grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held on July 22nd, and burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Nashville, with arrangements by Cosmopolitan Funeral Home.
