Dan was born October 31, 1936 in Wyaconda, Missouri, the son of the late Lloyd and Margurette (Golliher) Alderton. He was a graduate of Revere, Missouri high school and faithfully served his country with the United States Marine Corps. He married Anita Matteson on July 24, 1982 and they were married 32 years prior to her death on November 21, 2014. He is survived by two sons, Lloyd Alderton and wife Sang Hui of Las Vegas, Nevada and Michael Alderton of Mattoon; three grandchildren, Kyle, Alisha and Corey Alderton; a brother, Verlin Alderton and wife Sylvia of Buena Vista, Arkansas; a stepdaughter, Jamie Arthur of Tennessee and her family; and nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Alderton; a sister, Delore (Donald) Gardner; and a son-in-law, David Elam.

Dan was employed for many years with General Electric in Mattoon. After retiring from GE he went to work for Wal-Mart in their customer service department. He was mechanically inclined and enjoyed tinkering and working on things. He always had a canine companion and will be truly missed by his little dog “Lucky”. It was no secret that Dan was a HUGE St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan – he was usually wearing some sort of apparel or hat sporting a St. Louis Cardinals logo. It was Dan’s family that was the most important aspect of his life and he loved them dearly. Memories of him and special times shared will always be cherished.
