Brunswick-Margaret Mary Pilley White age 102 of Baribeau Drive died Sunday, February 3rd at her home.
She was born in Belfast on October 15. 1916 the daughter of Calvin F. Pilley and Mary Josephine Maroney Pilley. She was a 1934 graduate of Crosby High School in Belfast, Knox County Hospital School of Nursing and Maine Children’s Hospital of Portland, Maine in 1937.
Margaret worked in private duty nursing in Rockland and worked at hospitals in Rockland, Gardiner and Portland.
On August 12, 1938 she married Leon Richards White he died January 1, 1994. She lived in Rockland until 1942. During her husband’s World War II service years, she lived in Belfast, Alabama and California with her daughter Jo Anne, coming back to Rockland after the war. A lifelong Catholic, she attended St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Rockland and was a member of the Daughters of St. Bernard. She was a member of Knox Hospital Alumni Association and Knox County Nurse’s Guild for several years. She served as treasurer of Knox Hospital Alumni Association for five years. Margaret was Also a member of Maine State Nurses Association.
In 1955 Margaret moved to Brunswick when her husband became Assistant Security Chief at BNAS. After her husband retired, they moved to St. Augustine, Florida, living there for five years. In 1984 they moved back to Maine and became Topsham residents.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was also predeceased by a brother John M. Pilley in 1943, who died in the Solomon Islands serving in World War II. Two sisters, Lorretta Aubertine and Jennie Hanks. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Christopher Nay in 2002.
Surviving is a daughter Jo Anne White Quittmeyer and her husband George of Brunswick. Four grandchildren, Laura M. Nay of Bowdoin, Stanley E. Nay of Bowdoinham, John B. Nay and his wife Dianne of Gray and Michael P. Nay of Brunswick. Five great grandchildren, Ashlee James, Karina Nay, Jeffrey Nay, Allison Nay and Jody Nay. Three great great grandchildren, Sophia, Odin and Elliana.
The family would like to thank the staff at Thornton Hall Assisted Living for the outstanding care and compassion provided during the time Margaret resided there.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 7th at 11 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church- All Saints Parish 132 McKeen St. Brunswick. There will be no visiting hours. A reception will immediately follow the mass in St. Charles Parish Hall. Interment next to her husband, Leon will be held in the spring in the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities Maine P.O.
