Asa's obit says he was a drummer boy during the War of 1812, at the age of 12. Service record says he was a Private and would've been 16, which is more likely. Lived a very active life working more than 40 years as a machinist at the Boston Iron Works, serving in the Legislature and on the Boston Council as well as Steward of the South Boston Centenary Church. He is credited with having raised the first dollar ever offered for a methodist church in South Boston.
