GRAGSON, DOYLE ROLAND, 85, of South Louisville, went home to our Lord, Sunday, July 12, 2009.

He was born September 3, 1923 in Grayson County, KY. Doyle was a retired industrial machinery design engineer for over 25 years, retiring from Louisville Drying and Machinery Company. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II and Korea. During World War II, he served in the Southern Philippines and Western Pacific where he participated in many amphibious beach assaults, most notably the invasion of the Philippine island of Leyte. He also served as part of the Army of Occupation forces in Japan after the Japanese surrender in 1945. In 1950, he was recalled to active duty in Korea where he participated in combat in the northward push of the communist forces to the Yalu River. He attained the rank of Sergeant First Class before his honorable discharge in September 1952.

Survivors include his loving wife, son, and a grandchild.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Herbert and Kittie (Cain) Gragson; a sister, Alberta Vitato; and first wife of 24 years, Violet Jean Gragson.

Cremation was chosen and as per Doyle's wishes, there will be no memorial service or visitation.

The family requests expressions of sympathy to take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society. Nunnelley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
