Son of Sir Richard Cholmeley (alternate spelling is 'Cholmondeley'). Sir Roger was Lord Chief of Justice of the Court of King's Bench. He was Recorder of London and his endowment of a free grammar school, Highgate School, is what he is best remembered for. He was a lawyer and served in Parliament for the City and Middlesex. Sir Roger became Baron of the Exchequer, and was knighted in 1534.
