Theaters held a high pedestall in the early years of Bridgeton, NJ. John Westcott was a doorman at The Stanley Theater.
His nephew, Robert Westcott, Sr., my grandfather, remembers going to The Stanley Theater, which is where he saw his first "talkie" in the late 1920's.
"He would wear a long coat and a hat with the Warner Brothers logo on it," he recalled. "It was a regular big-city outfit." (see picture)
In the 1940's, Milton Marien came to Bridgeton from New York to run all three of the city's movie theaters, The Criterion, The Majestic and The Stanley.
The Stanley Theater was replaced by an Acme and later became the location of the Bridgeton News.
