The son of 7th Regiment, Connecticut Infantry Civil War veteran and P.O.W. Solomon Henry Adams, Sr. and his wife, Susan, he was born at Waterloo, Iowa and enlisted in the Navy in 1896. He was honorably discharged in 1920 with the rate of chief quartermaster. His younger brother, Solomon Henry Adams, Jr., enlisted in the Navy during World War I. He died on active duty in an accident on USS Carola IV of a crushed thorax on January 6, 1919 in France and is buried there.
Frank married Ethel Gertrude Donnell in 1906 and adopted her five year old daugther. Frank and Ethel had two sons and a daughter. He died in 1923 at age 44 and was survived by his wife and children.
