Emily Hope Porter was the daughter of Samuel Taylor Porter(my 2nd great grandfather),and Mary Jane Curtis. Sister to my great grandfather Clarence Essel Porter. She married John Wesley Shorey at the age of 14,on Aug. 20 1896 in Maxfield, Penobscot County,Maine.She and John were the parents of 6 children,Nina Althea Shorey,Lila Serinda Shorey,Samuel Thomas Shorey,Lanny Shorey,Leroy Basil Shorey,and Kenneth Louis Shorey.

MRS. EMILY H. SHOREY; ENFIELD - Mrs. Emily Hope Shorey, 82, died at a Lincoln hospital after a short illness. She was born at Lowell, November 17, 1880, the daughter of Samuel T. and Mary (Curtis) Porter. She was a member of the Enfield Baptist Church, Escutarsis Grange of Lowell and a secenth degree member of the National Grange; a member of the Ladies Aid of Lowell and Enfield; a life member of Lincoln Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; and a member of the Independent Order of Foresters. Survivors are two sons, Samuel T. Shorey of Lowell and Kenneth Shorey of Enfield; two daughters, Mrs. Nina Loupin and Mrs. Lilla Priest, both of Enfield; two brothers, John of Lowell and Clarence of Connecticut; one sister, Mrs. Fern Fogg of Burlington; 19 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Enfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Theodore Wallace, pastor, officiating. friends may call at the Barton Funeral Home at Lincoln until Thursday noon. Interment will be in Mt. Repose Cemetery, Burlington.
