A son of George W. and Marry Abbott, he married Annie Frances Wells, November 1, 1909 at Salem, Virginia. The couple had one son, Robert. He came to Champaign, Illinios in 1915 and operated a florist business for over 30 years. S.C. Abbott and Son was located at 1501 N. Prospect Avenue. Prior to opening at this location, he maintained a greenhouse and florist at 1700 W. Park. Active in several Masonic orders, he was a member of Western Star Lodge No. 240 A.F. and A.M.
