The El Reno Democrat. (El Reno, Okla. Terr.), Thursday, March 13, 1902
Burned to Death.
A.B. Cherry and wife, of Lawton, were burned to death last Sunday in their cottage on their claim fifty miles from Lawton where they had gone but a week before to make settlement. Mr. Cherry was manager of the Carbon Gas Lamp and Light company , and it was while preparing one of these patent lamps that the accident occurred. The lamp exploded enveloping the little cottage with flames. Mrs. Cherry threw their little six year old girl out the window and then ran out with her clothes on fire. Her husband remained inside looking for her, not knowing she had escaped. They both died on Monday. The little girl escaped the ravages of the fire.
